Medical Information
Blood pressure checks are available free of charge, at any time.
For convenience we prefer to do blood pressure checks during normal business hours, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., but we are available at the fire station twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. We will check your blood pressure and provide you with a written record of the result. If you are unable to come to the station please give us a call at 508-349-3754 and we will come to you.
If you are experiencing chest pain, dizzy or light headedness, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of stroke or cardiac difficulty please call 911 and we will respond immediately.
We encourage senior citizens and individuals with special medical needs, who live alone, to sign up for the Wellfleet Police Department Reassurance Program.
Once enrolled the police will provide a daily well being check to ensure that you are ok. If there is a problem they will quickly provide any needed assistance. For more information please contact the Wellfleet Police Department directly at 508-349-3702.
The Wellfleet Fire Department participates in the Barnstable County program for the safe disposal of household sharps by serving as a collection point for used lancets and syringes. Please bring your used sharps to the fire station in an appropriate sharps container during normal business hours. We will replace your container and see that your sharps are properly disposed of.

Please don't bring unwanted medications to the Fire Department.
Below are two safe ways to dispose of unused medications.
Deposit them in the medication return receptacle at the Wellfleet Police Station in the vestibule. The Police Station is located at 36 Gross Hill Road.

During emergencies seconds count. Vital information such as past medical history, allergies, medications, or persons to contact are required to provide the best possible care. The File of Life provides this critical information in an organized, efficient, manner and is available even when the patient is incapacitated or unable to respond to questions.
The File of Life concept is a simple one. A medical information form and magnetic folder are obtained from the fire department. The form is completed by the patient, assistance is available if necessary, and kept in a folder attached to the outside of the refrigerator door by the magnet. Emergency responders will check for the folder upon arrival and use the information it contains to begin immediate medical care.
We recommend the File of Life Program for senior citizens and other individuals with special medical needs. The File of Life is free of charge and could help save your life. You may obtain one by stopping by the Wellfleet Fire Department's main station at 10 Lawrence Road, or by calling us at 508-349-3754.
Medical alert alarms give an added level of security to senior citizens living alone, the handicapped, or individuals who have a history of falling.
The alarms provide a small pendant or wrist transmitter that allows you the freedom to move about your property unrestricted, but enables you to summon help immediately should you fall or need assistance. These devices are provided by private companies at reasonable cost and are often covered by insurance. The Wellfleet Fire Department does not endorse any particular company but can provide you with brochures and contact information. Please stop by or call us for more information.

As an essential part of our commitment to our patients we maintain the privacy of certain confidential health care information known as Protected Health Information (PHI). We are required by law to protect this information and to provide a Notice of Privacy Practices.
