Fuel Spill

Sunday 08/18/2024

At approximately 0930 this morning the Wellfleet Fire Department was notified of large fuel spill in Wellfleet Harbor.  Deputy Chief Cappello arrived and found a large spill of fuel throughout the harbor.  With the assistance of the harbor master as well as mutual aid from Truro Fire Department absorbent booms were deployed to contain and collect as much fuel as possible.

Any spill over 10 gallons the fire department is mandated to report to Department of Environmental Protection, Coast Guard, Wellfleet Shellfish Constable as well as the local Board of Health.  All reporting parties responded to the scene are working together to mitigate the situation.  Fire department has no further information, the Harbor Master has the scene and will be continuing to work with the DEP and Coast Guard.
