Construction Worker Injured in Wellfleet

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

On March 14, 2019, at approximately 8:05 AM, the Wellfleet Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a construction accident, with a man trapped under a steel I-beam on Josem’s Way, which is located off of Route 6. The Wellfleet Fire Department responded with a Paramedic staffed ambulance and command vehicle, arriving on scene at 8:09 AM.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel found a 46-year old male (a construction worker) who was assisting with the transfer of several steel I-beams from a flat-bed trailer. For reasons unknown at this time, the victim was accidentally struck by an I-beam and wedged for a brief period of time. The male victim was conscious and alert upon the Fire Department’s arrival on scene. Due to the nature of the injuries (possibility of significant internal injury) Boston Med Flight was requested to respond.

The patient was transported by Wellfleet Fire Department ambulance to Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis where he was transferred to the Med Flight helicopter and then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment. No other information is available at this time.
